Jaine & Luke
Jaine & Luke got married on October 4th, 2019 on their 8 year anniversary of being together. Whilst their original plans were to have their ceremony and reception at the beautiful Aggies Cottage, the weather that day had other plans. However, it was no match for the amazing Dandaragan community who pulled together and transformed the local sports club into a stunning oasis full of rustic décor, gum leaves and twinkling fairly lights all around – what a beautiful surprise for the Bride and Groom who had no idea what they would be walking into that evening.
Here is a little more about Luke & Janie’s Love Story
How did you first meet?
We first met at high school. We always knew of each other but never spoke or got to know each other until Luke’s final year.
Tell us about the proposal?
It was a few days after my birthday, and we had a movie and lunch date in Perth. We had just ordered drinks and were sitting down waiting when he did his little ‘speech’ and proposed.
What was the duration of your engagement?
We were engaged for 3 years and 4 months before we got married.
What was the most stressful part of planning your wedding?
... planning the wedding! 😂
What was the most exciting part of planning your wedding?
It’s the day you’ve always dreamed of so it’s always fun putting together ideas you have seen or thought of for years and finally seeing it all come together.
What did you learn about each other whilst planning your wedding?
That we stress very easily over little things 😂 looking back now, it was no big deal but at the time seemed very important.
What is your number one piece of advice for couples just stating to plan their wedding?
Try to relax and enjoy the process. Give yourself a decent time frame and realistic goals that you can achieve in that time.
What is the one thing you’d recommend that a couple spends decent money on for their wedding?
Photography! You’ll always look back at your wedding photos so you want them to be perfect.
Can you tell us a little about your ceremony? Did you write your own vows? What made you choose your ceremony location? Were you following any particular theme for your set up? I.e. rustic, classic, chic.
We live in a small country town so choosing a location was very limited. We wanted somewhere that would have a nice canvas for photos and would be a nice rustic/country atmosphere. We were given different templates from our celebrant and I just changed the wording where I wanted so they sounded more ‘us’.
Tell us about the moment you saw each other for the first time. How did you feel? Were there tears?
We felt relieved. The day didn’t exactly go to plan due to horrible weather and I knew Luke was stressing all day trying to sort out our new reception location.
Luke looked as if he was going to cry but I couldn’t get him to shed a tear 😜
Tell us a little about your reception? What theme were you going for? Was it a sit down, cocktails etc? What food did you have?
Our reception location changed the day of our wedding! It ended up looking absolutely beautiful due to the help of the local community pitching in to help us! It was a rustic theme with a cocktail food menu with food such as Mac and cheese balls, arancini balls, home-made gourmet pies etc. absolutely delicious food catered by local people 😊
What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day for you?
The reception. It was a surprise walking into it and we were so overwhelmed and grateful for what everyone had done for us. My Dad’s Father of the Bride speech was very special for me also. And just getting married in general after 8 years together was definitely a huge highlight!
In hindsight, is there anything you wish you had done differently – an aspect you would have left out, something you wish you’d done or perhaps something that didn’t turn out the way you had planned?
Have a back up plan! We were in denial despite all of the weather warnings. I wish we just sucked it up and thought of a plan B to make the day that much more easier. It all worked out in the end and it was a beautiful day but we could have avoided the extra stress.
Where did you go on your honeymoon and for how long?
We went to Bali (first time for us) and stayed for 10 days. It was amazing!
